PRESIDENT’S REPORT
This was a year of change and moving! The move
I’m referring to was the culmination of some difficult decisions on the part of
your Board of Directors and staff. The old headquarters building had become a huge drain on our finances due to the extensive repairs needed to bring the building up to standard that ensured the
safety and health of our staff and visitors as well as the wonderful art in the International Museum of the Society of Decorative Painting (IMSDP). Sale negotiations were finally completed with the counsel of the Association For Creative Industries (AFCI), known as the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) at the time, and input from our staff. In July 2016, the headquarters was moved to a more affordable space near the art district of Wichita, Kan. Our new location is bright, secure and offers ample space to house and display our wonderful art collection in the IMSDP. We could not have accomplished this without the guidance of our management company, AFCI. In October, many local members joined us for an open house to celebrate the accomplishments and enjoy the new IMSDP. We have updated our office staff and have a competent, dedicated group to handle all the functions to run a smooth, efficient office and membership organization. Under the guidance of Mark Hill, AFCI President and Chief Executive Officer, and his staff, we have a skilled team in place in Wichita. We are in debt to their dedication and business acumen for the guidance they have given SDP over the past two and a half years. We still face many challenges but with sound business and accounting practices in place, we feel we are prepared to face those challenges with your continued support.
