brush or the flat brush, whichever you prefer.
STEP 2: Paint the underneath petals Quinacridone Burnt Or- ange and the top petals Pyrrole Orange, using either a round or flat brush. Tap Burnt Umber on the center with the small stencil brush.
STEP 3: Squirt Diarylide Yellow and Quinacridone Gold into wells to begin highlighting the petals. Using either a round or flat brush, apply Diarylide Yellow on the top petals and Quinacridone Gold on the underneath petals. Next shade the petals by apply- ing more Quinacridone Burnt Orange to the underneath ones and a little Quinacridone Gold on the top petals. Highlight the center by tapping on Pyrrole Orange around the front edge and along the top of the dip. Shade by tapping Carbon Black along the back, or right edge and inside the dip.
LEAVES: Paint Diarylide Yellow on the tips or edges of the ma- ple leaves followed by Pyrrole Orange and a little Quinacridone Burnt Orange. Paint Quinacridone Gold on the tip or side of the oak leaves followed by Pyrrole Orange and Quinacridone Burnt Orange. Blend the colors together as you apply them.
FINISHING DETAILS
Paint as many layers on the sunflower as you prefer. I strengthened the Carbon Black shading on the center and added more Pyrrole Orange. You may also want to add a bit of Burnt Umber shading on the petals and apply more Diarylide Yellow to brighten.
Use the 10/0 liner and paint fine vein lines in the leaves; use a color that just barely shows up.
I wanted the lettering to be shiny like the rest of the painting, so I painted over it with Carbon Black using a round brush.
Paint Copper over the leaves and sunflower.
I glued a black rhinestone on the curl of the “&” but you really cannot see it. Glue various sizes of crystal rhinestones on the curls and then glue on the Steampunk Butterfly.
