ALMONDS
Shade with Raw Sienna floats. Dry.
Shade again with Burnt Umber. Dry.
Paint in dashes with a liner and Raw Sienna.
WALNUTS
Shade with floats of Burnt Umber. Dry.
Paint U-strokes with a liner and Burnt Umber. While wet, pick up Warm White on the dirty liner and paint on and slightly above your strokes to highlight with smaller U-shapes.
PINE NEEDLES
Using a liner brush, painting from the vein/stem toward the tips with fine lines, paint in this order: Hauser Green Medium; Hauser Green Light+Yellow Citron (1:1); Titanium White+Wrought Iron (2:1)
JOY
Outline letters and paint in with Pure Gold Metallic. Dry. Paint a second coat. Dry.
Paint edges of wood with two coats of Pure Gold Metallic. If using a canvas, frame in gold or add a gold border.

Pat Smelkoff loves to introduce students to the
joy of painting. She is an artist, designer, travel
teacher and also author of “Juicy Fruits and Fragrant Flowers,” published by Plaid Enterprises. Pat
designs painting projects for magazines such as
Paint Works, Painting, and The Decorative Painter,
the official publication of the Society of Decorative Painters.
She has taught at many conventions, namely Artist Expo-Houston Texas; HOOT; Heart of Ohio Tole in Columbus, Ohio; New England Traditions, Marlborough, Mass.; as well as Decorative Painting Chapters in North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. She had the opportunity to study Russian stroke painting in Zhostovo, Russia with Master Artist Boris Grafov. Pat is a Plaid Ambassador, a certified Priscilla Hauser and Heather Redick instructor, as well as being certified in Bob Ross Florals.
