PREPARATION
Sand the canvas lightly. Wipe off any residue. Using your roller, basecoat the top of the canvas above the table line with Foliage Green. Allow to dry.
Using the 3⁄4" wash, basecoat the tabletop with Warm White. Do not tape off the background. This is a table- cloth, and should be a soft line. Allow to dry. Trace the design, but do not transfer it yet.
LET’S PAINT
BACKGROUND
Dampen the background with the 3⁄4" wash. Using the same brush or one of similar size and working in small areas, slip-slap the following color values to create a softly mottled effect: First apply Sap Green to darken the corners and middle area, then let dry; repeat with Black Green in the top corners and lower left, then let dry; repeat with a little Plantation Pine here and there for color variation, then let dry. Transfer the design.
ACCEnT CoLoR GLAZE
Fully load the 3⁄4" wash with water-thinned Cobalt Blue Hue. With the chisel edge of the brush, pull a line across the back of the tablecloth. Allow to dry.
VASE
Using the 3⁄4" wash, glaze the entire vase with water- thinned Cobalt Blue Hue. Do not create a hard edge at the top of the vase because the flowers will cover it. Using your no. 8 filbert, glaze the handle. Allow to dry. To create the flower stems inside the vase, pull down with the chisel edge of the 3⁄4" wash loaded with Sap Green+tch Black Green. Allow to dry. Omitting the ellipse created by the water surface, glaze the vase and handle again with water- thinned Cobalt Blue Hue. Allow to dry.
Sideload the 3⁄4" wash with Cobalt Blue Hue and shade the sides of the vase. Allow to dry. Using Cobalt Blue Hue, shade under the flowers as well as above and below the ellipse. Sideload your no. 8 flat with Cobalt Blue Hue and shade the handle on both sides and where it’s attached to the vase.
