GETTING TO KNOW OUR ARTIST OF DISTINCTION
Cheri Rol mda
It is with greatest pleasure that the Foundation features Cheri Rol as the Artist of Distinction for 2021-2022. Cheri’s story begins like so many of us who began decorative painting many years ago – by accident! In the early ’70s Cheri moved to Nebraska with three small children and needed an outlet from the everyday hubbub. A neighbor invited her to painting classes in her basement on Thursday nights. The teacher had studied with the storied Ann Kingsland – and the rest is history!
Through the next years Cheri and friends opened a shop, closed a shop, had life dramas, remarried to Larry Rol, (who we ALL know and love) and opened another shop.
Cheri continued to teach and work on passing her MDA. Here is the good news for the rest of us – it took her years to pass! No kidding! Persistence and perseverance – you can do it!
When asked what was her favorite piece, she said it is her first piece dedicated to learning how to paint silver hollowware. She had just passed her MDA and after years of a solid goal she found herself with no major deadline or direction. So, creating the realism of silver became her new goal. The painting she most treasures is called “Some Like It Hot” and features a red background with a silver teapot.
