Cheri continued to study throughout her career with Ann Kingsland, Mary Jo Leisure, Helen Roberts, Mary Lou Garrison, Hal Halloum and many other greats of the fine art and decorative painting world.
Cheri’s very favorite painting memory is of sitting on the deck, on the river, on the slopes of a ski lodge in British Columbia, teaching and plein air (open air) painting. Not only was it a life-changing environment, she was introduced to alkyds which accelerate the drying time of oils.
We all have some kind of life-changing experience that involves a major learning event. It is a joy to know we all share a different but magic painting moment! When asked “How has decorative painting changed your life?” Cheri replied, “It is my life.”
And it has been since the early ’80s when Larry helped her recognize her dream with unwavering support. Decorative painting has allowed her to travel not only in the United States but to many foreign countries – Argentina, Colombia, and Taiwan, to name a few. With each experience she has made new friends, shared with old friends, and left a mark on everyone’s life with her grace and talent.
Among Cheri’s many talents is her reputation as a fabulous cook – yet another accomplished creative outlet!
No story about Cheri would be complete without Larry Rol. Like her
beginning painting career, she met Larry by accident. A friend mentioned
she knew someone who needed a piece of his woodwork painted for a craft show. So, Cheri said “sure!” As with most things, it turned out to be more than anticipated, but the connection was made. She had her very own “wood man!” It doesn’t get much better than that.
They continue to be one of the best-loved teams in our decorative painting industry. Enjoy a glimpse into their working world – and
sample Cheri’s fast and yummy favorites.
Thank you Cheri for all you have brought to the world of decorative painting!
