 FINISHING
Great job! Sign your name. Apply two or three coats of DecoArt DuraClear Varnish, allowing plenty of drying time between coats. Do not sand – chances are you might cut through on the edges of some of the strokes.
Thank you for giving this design your time and effort. Now you might want to paint it again, using your favorite color scheme. Paint happy!
Marilyn Corners mda’s life as a painter began the fall of 1969, when her husband was transferred to Beaumont, Texas for a year and she chose to take their three children and spend that time together as a family, rather than be a ‘single parent’. Having no acquaintances there and with her youngest out of the house, starting first grade, she quickly located a craft shop. Marilyn discovered the shop taught an art form called “Tole Painting”. An amazing teacher, Molly Taylor, drove to Beaumont from Houston once a week to teach the class. Marilyn was immediately smitten.
In 1971 she opened her first shop/studio, An Art Affair, with her partner, Betty Haddock. They held classes,
sold art supplies, created many wonderful friendships and discovered many talented artists among their students. After 13 years, An Art Affair closed. In 1984, Marilyn opened Marilyn’s Decorative Arts Studio, where she taught classes, sold supplies, did custom painting, designed pattern packets and loved it all. In 1999 Marilyn retired when she closed the studio. In 1973 she became a member of SDP and a founding member of her chapter, Rocky Mountain Hi Chapter in 1975. Her Strokework tray passed in 1976, the Floral board in 1977, and Marilyn earned her MDA in 1978, finally passing the Still Life board. The journey was a priceless educational opportunity for which she is very grateful. She has served on the Board of Directors of SDP for three separate terms. Marilyn feels so blessed to have discovered “tole painting” all those years ago. It has brought her friendships, pleasure, purpose, inspiration and a lifetime of joy. Her wish is that decorative painting will do the same for you.
