FLOWER
With a round filbert no. 6 or no. 8 brush, basecoat the flower petals with Snow (Titanium) White. Let dry.
Using the same brush paint the petals Light Magenta Mix starting from outside to inside. Paint Magenta Mix in the center of the flower. Then paint the shadows that separate the petals with Magenta. In the darker areas add Dioxazine Purple to the Magenta.
For the light petals make a watery (diluted) paint using Red Violet+Alizarin Crimson+Dioxazine Purple (1:1:tch). Painting with a liner brush or filbert brush, round the
edges of the open petals with Light Green Mix. Using a no. 2 round brush with Snow (Titanium) White paint the highlights in the petals (See step 3 of the Step-by-Steps on page 65). For the cast shadows on the petals, prepare a mixture of Dioxazine Purple+Red Violet+Lamp (Ebony) Black (1+1+tch). Use a no. 2 round or liner brush to make the small shadows. Let dry.
CENTER OF THE FLOWER
Using a round brush or liner with a mixture of Cadmium Orange+Hansa Yellow (1:1), paint the stamens in the center of the flower. Using the liner with Hansa Yellow+Snow (Ti- tanium) White (1:tch) paint the intermediate lights. For the stronger lights use a touch of Hansa Yellow. Let dry.
THE WATER
To give a feeling of water, use a no. 8 round brush or no. 10 filbert with diluted Black Green, paint the bottom of the flower and in some areas. Let dry.
In some areas create small lights with the diluted col- ors of Snow (Titanium) White, Cadmium Yellow, and Light Green to give a wet effect.
Do the same to deepen the shading in other small ar- eas. Start with White Gray Mix, Hansa Yellow and Evergreen wet-on-wet. Thin all the paints with a little water to keep them light and semi-transparent. Let dry.
