THE DECORATIVE PAINTER
READERSHIP SURVEY RECAP
by Sheryl Born, Magazine Coordinator/Graphic Designer
We distributed an online readership survey for The Decorative Painter by email to over
8,000 members in August. We received an outstanding response rate (23.6%) from a diverse audience of members. Below are some of the key findings.
• The majority of survey respondents (57.6%) indicated being either “completely satisfied”
or “very satisfied” with the magazine.
• Over 96% of respondents indicated they read the projects and lessons, suggesting projects
and lessons are the most consumed section of the magazine.
• Recent issues have featured Erika Joanne, Judy Westegaard-Jenkins cda, Mabel Blanco
daca, Sharon Buononato cda, Carole Sheftic and Maureen Baker, who are some of the
artists the members had asked to see in the magazine.
• Over 88% of members who responded said they keep the magazine for more than one year.
We have some members call our office to order patterns from previous issues, which shows
they refer to previous issues to find projects to do.
• A moderate number (18.84%) of members said they view The Decorative Painter online as
well as in print; although, we want to remind you that you can access previous issues back to 2012 in the Member Only section of the SDP website, including the projects and lessons, patterns and line art.
• Over 78% of members said they prefer to read the print version of the magazine. As always, we are committed to putting out the best The Decorative Painter magazine in print for our membership to enjoy.
We will always strive to improve The Decorative Painter magazine with your input. We love your suggestions and plan to have more surveys like this to collect your feedback in the future. If you have any suggestions, please contact me at sheryl@decorativepainters.org.
