During the 2014 SDP Conference in San Diego, my friends and I were having lunch and watched these cute little ducks walking by. I decided to use color
pencils and suede board, a technique I was intro- duced to by Marian Jackson mda. This duck brings me great memories of a happy vacation with my painting friends in San Diego. I can’t wait to go there again!
PREPARATION
Trace the design onto tracing paper. Next, lightly trans- fer the design onto the suede board surface with Saral paper. The suede board mat surface indents easily and cannot be re- paired; I usually use white or graphite of Saral paper, depend- ing on background color. It’s your choice.
I start by painting the eye because this is a most important area on the face. To make the feathers realistic, paint in the direction of natural growth.
