COMMUNITY SERVICE
Cherokee Trail Decorative Painters
In May, the Union County Georgia Relay for Life held an event at the Farmer’s Market in Blairsville, Ga., and the Cherokee Trail Decorative Painters chapter donated hand- painted tiles for the team’s fundraiser. Painted on the tiles were an iris, symbolizing hope, faith, and wisdom; and a purple ribbon, the color chosen by the American Cancer Society to represent cancer survivors. The chapter raised approximately $600 for this event.
ALL
Also painted were 225 luminary bags for families of cancer survivors to purchase. Messages and names were
written on each individual bag, honoring the memory of their loved ones afflicted with cancer. The luminaries were placed on a trail and families and friends went
on a silent, reflective walk honoring their loved ones. This was a very emotional walk for some.
CHAPTERS
By sharing their time and talent for the Relay for Life event, the Cherokee Trail Decorative
Painters chapter gave a lot to many in need.
A FUN FUNDRAISER FOR THE WILDFLOWERS OF TEXOMA
The Wildflowers of Texoma chapter used their April meeting as a Kentucky Derby/Bunco party fundraiser. They wore decorated hats and served a Derby-inspired luncheon with Hot Browns, cucumber sandwiches, pecan tassies, virgin mint juleps, and a winner’s-circle
cake decorated with red roses. After lunch they voted for best hat and played Bunco. This fundraiser made a fun afternoon for the chapter.
ROCKY TOP DECORATIVE PAINTERS PAINT WITH ALCOHOL INK
Maxine Falls led an introduction class in alcohol ink for the Rocky Top Decorative Painters chapter. They found using alcohol inks can be a fun way to use colors and create backgrounds on many different non-porous surfaces such as ceramic tiles, glass, and metals.
The chapter also is very involved in making tray favors to put on food trays that are delivered to
shut-ins to bring
a little more joy
into their lives.
