 ENAMEL
  LEMONS
STEP 1: The whole lemons appear in three places on the jar. Use the no. 12 flat brush to basecoat the lemons with Lemon Custard. Let the first coat dry completely.
STEP 2: For the second coat, double-load the no. 12 flat brush with Lemon Custard and Yellow Ochre. Starting at an angle at the bottom of a lemon with the darker yellow on the outside, paint around the left side of the lemon. Turn the jar around and repeat the process for the right side. Quickly use the lighter part of your brush to smooth out the lighter center of the lemon. Repeat for all lemons.
LEMON SLICE
STEP 1: Mix Frost White with a dab of Lemon Custard on your palette. You just want a hint of yellow to show. Using the no. 12 flat brush, paint the half circle shape using up and down strokes only. Try to do just a few strokes to keep the transparency. If you think you’ve painted too much, then quickly wipe it away with a damp paper towel and start again. Make sure that the top of your slice is straight.
STEP 2: Using the no. 1 liner brush, paint the outer lemon rind with Lemon Custard+Yellow Ochre (1:1). Let dry and paint a second coat. Make sure that the top rind lines up with the center that you painted in Frost White.
STEP 3: Mix Warm White+Lemon Custard (1:tch) on your palette. Paint the inner rind. Repeat and paint a second coat. Using the no. 10/0 liner brush, carefully paint very thin veins in your slice that meet in the center and radiate out onto your slice. Then paint tiny curved edges on each side of each vein where it meets the rind. This will add a surprising touch of realism to your piece.
OPEN BLOSSOMS
STEP 1: Using the no. 1 liner brush and Warm White, paint the flower petals – one coat only. You’ll get the best pet- al shape if you touch the point of the brush on the outer end of the petal and slowly press down and slowly lift back up as you drag your brush toward the center. If this is new to you, then practice a few times on paper until you’re comfortable. STEP 2: With the no. 10/0 liner brush, paint a few dots in the cen- ter of the blossoms using Berry Wine. Then, paint a few dots with Fresh Foliage. Then, top off with a few dots with Lemon Custard.
FALLING BLOSSOM
STEP 1: Using the no. 1 liner brush and Warm White, paint the flower petals using the same procedure as the open blossom – one coat only.
STEP 2: Mix a bit of Berry Wine+Warm White (1:1) to create the pink cap on top of the falling flower.
