STEP 5: On the wall, apply a basecoat of Engine Red. When dry, apply a layer of FolkArt Extender Medium. Mix Pure Black with FolkArt Glazing Medium and apply a layer of this mixture by sliding it up and down and gently swirling to- ward you to achieve the effect of wood grain. Let dry com- pletely. With the angular brush and the floating technique, float some vertical lines to simulate wood blocks.
STEP 6: On the lower part, apply a basecoat of Nutmeg. Let dry completely. Apply a layer of FolkArt Extender Medium. Mix Pure Black with FolkArt Glazing Medium and apply a lay- er of this mixture by sliding it up and down and gently swirl- ing toward you to achieve the effect of wood grain. Let dry completely. On the top, float with Pure Black on both sides; this will join the wall to the surface of the base.
FLOATING TECHNIQUE: Load your 1" flat brush with wa- ter; remove the excess on the edge of container. At the top of the brush, place the paint; download the color and apply to achieve degradation, shadows or lights.
STEP 7: To create the window frame, apply Nutmeg. With the angular brush and the floating technique, use Pure Black to add shadows to the sides. Let dry completely.
DOVE
Transfer the design of the dove, using transfer or white paper. Dilute Titanium White (60% water, 40% paint) to the consistency of a wash and apply a smooth layer on the entire interior of your design. Use the floating technique with Steel Gray to create the shadow of the lower parts of the dove. (See Step-by-Steps on page 61.) Let dry completely. With the stylus, create points around the contour of the design as well as in the details of the central tail feathers. At the tip of each of the wings, create circles using the liner brush. Create fine inter- secting lines in the extreme left of the face of the dove, delin- eate the eye, and place the light in the center of the wings by placing comma-strokes with the same color. The more you do the fine points, or from largest to smallest, the more detailed will be your art. Let dry completely.
LEAVES
Transfer the design of the flowers over the lower part of the dove. Load a 1⁄2" flat brush with a small amount of Sunny Yellow+Hauser Green Light (1:1). Create the leaves of the flow- ers with a wavy stroke, alternating leaves using the same colors with S-strokes. To paint the foliage, load your brush with Ti- tanium White+Sunny Yellow (1:tch) and paint S-strokes. Load the liner brush with Hauser Green Light and paint fine lines in the contours and in the central part of your stroke to simulate the stems of your flower button. Let dry completely.
