PREPARATION
Prepare the plate by sanding the entire surface, and seal with Jo Sonja’s All-Purpose Sealer. Basecoat the surface with Eggshell White. When dry, lightly sand the entire surface again. Sand the rim using the 400-grit sandpaper creating a shabby/antique look. Basecoat the bowl of the plate with Bleached Sand.
VERTICAL STRIPES
Refer to diagram on page 83.
Lightly transfer the lines onto the center of the plate with graphite paper. Using 1⁄2" painter’s masking tape, tape along the lines and lightly basecoat vertical stripes with Light Mocha. Let dry. Remove the tape and place masking tape on the other side of the lines, and paint a light wash of Light Buttermilk.
Transfer the rose designs and outline of the card onto the plate. You will transfer the design of the champagne glass, grapes and lettering later.
NOTE: You will see the transferred lines during each step. Erase and clean all lines after you finish painting.
