ACRYLIC
BASECOAT
Refer to diagram on page 83.
TIP: The roses and leaves are painted using a transparency wash technique. Paint Rose A with a wash of Antique White. Paint Rose B with a wash
of Dusty Rose.
Paint Leaf A with a wash of Celery Green. Paint Leaf B with a wash of
Silver Sage Green.
Basecoat the card with Warm White. (Refer to step 1 of the Step-by-Steps
on page 81.)
TIP: Use DecoArt Extender & Blending Medium and sideload the brush
when shading, then blend paint with a mop. Paint the highlights with wet- on-wet technique using DecoArt Extender & Blending.
Apply DecoArt Extender & Blending lightly on the rose area. Sideload the no. 6 or 10 flat brush with Burnt Umber and shade Rose A. Sideload the no. 6 or 10 flat brush with Russet and shade Rose B.
Lightly apply DecoArt Extender & Blending on leaf and calyx. Using the no. 6 or 10 flat brush shade Leaf A with a sideload of Burnt Umber and Leaf B with a sideload of Dark Forest Green.
Apply Fawn on the inside edge of the card, shadow of the rose and leaf using the no. 12 flat brush. Blend with mop brush.
Sideload the no. 12 flat brush with Fawn and paint the bottom edge of the card on the vertical stripes, blending with mop. (Refer to step 2 of the Step-by-Step on page 83.)
ROSE HIGHLIGHTS
Refer to step 3 of the Step-by-Step on page 81.
Paint the extender on the roses first, then lightly paint the basecoat a second time, basecoating Rose A with Antique White and Rose B with Dusty Rose. (Make sure that you do not lose the shading during this step.)
Doubleload a 1⁄4" and/or 3⁄8" angular with Antique White and Light But- termilk, stroke the highlight on Rose A.
Doubleload a 1⁄4" and/or 3⁄8" angular with Dusty Rose and Hi-Lite Flesh, stroke the highlight on Rose B.
Sideload with Burnt Umber and randomly paint a second shade on the edge of card and shadow under the leaf.
Apply Cool White on right outer edge of the card with the no. 12 flat brush, use mop to blend. Let dry.
SECOND HIGHLIGHT OF ROSE
Refer to step 4 of the Step-by-Step on page 83.
Sideload a 1⁄4" or 3⁄8" with Light Buttermilk to highlight Rose A and high- light Rose B with a sideload of Hi-Lite Flesh. Let dry. You can add more shade by repeating the first shade process and blending with mop.
Use the no. 5/0 liner with Celery Green to paint the stem on the rose.
Paint the veins on the leaves using the no. 5/0 liner with Burnt Umber on Leaf A and Dark Forest Green on Leaf B. Paint the shaded area with Burnt Umber on Leaf A and Dark Forest Green on Leaf B. Add dark shades with a sideload of the shade color.
