Our Society of Decorative Painters logo was created
by Joan Johnson mda. A call for entries went out to
Society members to design a logo for the newly-created organization. The emblem was chosen by popular vote of members in attendance at the first National Society of
Tole and Decorative Painters Convention, April 27-29, 1973, in Lenexa, Kan. One of the beautiful qualities of our organization is that it encompasses many styles. October
is National Arts and Humanities Month. This is a coast-to- coast collective recognition of the importance of art culture. We encourage you to paint the SDP logo to showcase your style and passion for decorative painting.
Decorative painting means something just a little different for each of us. In its origin, it meant individuals painting everyday household objects to decorate their home in an inexpensive way. Today we paint on an array of objects. Honestly, if it sits still long enough, we will paint on it! Look at past issues of The Decorative Painter for inspiration. Use your creativity and paint the logo on fabric for a pillow,
a platter for your dining room table, or anything that will display your love for the arts. Take photos and send to sdp@ decorativepainters.org so we can showcase your work on social media during National Arts and Humanities Month.
