P. 66

Large Pumpkin: Basecoat with Spiced Pumpkin. NOTE – The first highlight is the widest; each successive highlight is a little narrower. Using dry medium or large Mezzaluna brush, pick up basecoat color, take out excess on palette, pick up Orange Twist, take out excess, and dry-brush highlights on each section. Repeat, picking up more Orange Twist in dirty brush. Repeat, picking up Primary Yellow. Repeat, picking up Primary Yellow. Repeat, picking up Warm White; repeat, picking up more Warm White. Add more Warm White to the high shine areas.
Shadows: NOTE – The first shadow is the widest; each successive shadow is a little narrower. Using the same brushes, adjusting size as necessary and making sure they are as dry as can be, pick up Burnt Orange, take out excess, and begin adding “ridges” to each section and shade next to sections. Repeat, picking up Heritage Brick in dirty brush; repeat, adding more Heritage Brick. Repeat, picking up Dark Chocolate in dirty brush; repeat, adding Bittersweet Chocolate to dirty brush and adding to darkest areas only. Float Burnt Orange, then Heritage Brick, next to stem on all sections; add Dark Chocolate to dirty brush and add more shading to sections 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7. Add Bittersweet Chocolate to dirty brush and add more shading to these areas on sections 2, 3, 6, and 7. Using large brush, float above colors, in order given at left and left/ bottom. Float lightly with Red Violet on shadow areas, just to give a hint of color.
Stem: Basecoat with Antique Green. Dry-brush with medium Mezzaluna brush or float for highlights: Antique Green+Cashmere Beige (approx. 1:1). Add Burlap to dirty brush; add Light Sage to right sections only; add Warm White to dirty brush and add to right sections only. I also added a little of each of these colors except the Light Sage and Warm White to the top edge. Shade with Light Avocado, then Avocado, then Midnite Green, Dark Chocolate, and lastly Bittersweet Chocolate to separate sections and under highlight at top. Float these colors along bottom edge as well. Dampen entire area and, using liner brush, “dab” and “dot” Cashmere Beige and Burlap in a hit- and-miss line on highlight areas. When dry, wash over all with light Red Violet.
Frame: Basecoat with Bittersweet Chocolate. Dampen sponge, squeeze out most of the water, pick up Metallic Rich Espresso, tap out excess on palette until it looks “misty” and tap on surface. Repeat, picking up Pink Tourmaline, not using as much and letting background show through. Repeat, picking up Metallic Rose Gold in dirty sponge. When dry, float Bittersweet Chocolate around outside and inside edges.
FINISHING
