darkest shade areas making sure not to completely overlap the first shade. Dry. Wax: Section 1 – see Step-by-Step.
Mix a puddle of Red Violet and deepen shading on all petals that are not waxed; this includes all the outside petals on the center flower. Dry. Wax: Section 2 – see Step-by-Step.
Add a tch of Van Dyke Green to the Red Violet mix. Again, deepen shading on all petals that are not waxed; this includes the petals that are set behind on the center flower. Only shade the areas that overlap the petals touching from above. Dry. Wax: Section 3 – see Step-by-Step.
All flowers (petals and berries) should be covered in wax now.
Leaves: Mix a puddle of Greenish Yellow and basecoat all leaves. Mix a puddle of Olive Green and, while wet, shade along the center vein lines at the the base of each leaf and where the leaves overlap; add a tch of Van Dyke Green to the mix to deepen shading. Dry. Wax all leaves.
Background: Lightly spray rice paper with water. Mix puddles of Olive Green, Van Dyke Green, and Red Violet and tap in the background one color at a time allowing the colors to bleed together. Leave some empty/white areas here and there. Place the darkest colors around the flowers and leaves. Mix a puddle of Ultramarine Deep and deepen the darkest shade areas. Dry.
Wax entire sheet of rice paper.
FINISHING
Remove the rice paper from the wax paper by placing upside down on a flat surface. Begin in a corner and carefully peel off the wax paper.
Iron off the wax by placing your project between three sheets of newspaper, then two sheets and then one sheet until all visible wax is gone. Clean your iron on old towels when changing the newspaper.
Use any remaining watercolor mixes to fix any imperfections that you aren’t happy with. It will resist due to the wax; however, you can work it in with some effort.
Tape your project to a white background, attach to a mat and frame.
