PAINTING TIPS
When transferring strokes to the surface, use well-worn transfer paper. Each stroke is done only once which avoids seeing your transfer lines through the paint. Instead of transferring the entire stroke, transfer a line down the center of the stroke with a perpendicular line where it begins. This is how your pattern was drawn. If your lines are transferred too dark, erase them lightly. Always reload your brush for every stroke or line to have consistent value. I do not wash my brush with every stroke, only when the paint becomes tacky or the brush has accumulated a lot of old paint.
For basecoating, I find that filbert/cat’s tongue brushes allow for a smoother application without ridges, particularly when painting objects with curved edges. I like to use flats for basecoating holly to get sharp points. Use the longest liner/ scroller you are comfortable with as the brush will carry more paint; thin the paint to an inky, nail polish consistency. Hold your brush as if you are writing cursive and as you pull the line, move your arm from your shoulder while using your pinkie finger to keep your hand steady.
