PREPARATION
Lightly sand the frame, removing any debris with tack cloth. With the 1" flat, apply a coat of Lamp Black. Allow this to dry and then lightly sand the surface again, removing any sanding dust. Apply a second coat of Lamp Black in the same manner. For the third coat, mix a touch of water into the Lamp Black. Applying an even coat of this inky black will ensure a smooth surface. Allow this to dry completely, and then transfer the main lines of the design. The details will be added later.
LET’S PAINT
All leaves and stems are created according to the follow- ing instructions.
Note that many of the flowers have two different types of leaves—one has smooth edges and the other appears to have ridged edges. Both types are shown on the Leaves Step-by- Step (page 91).
Double-load the no. 6 round with Evergreen and Forest Green and basecoat the leaves and stems. It’s O.K. if the cover- age is streaky.
The highlight strokes (on both the smooth and ridged edges) are done with Light Avocado on the no. 4 filbert.
Create the detail lines as shown on the Step-by-Step with Lamp Black on the no. 2 liner.
