STEP 2:With the no. 2 filbert, float a shade of Dark Chocolate under the rim of the bell, and in the flower’s center. Notice that the shade in the center transforms the area where the center meets the edge of the bell into an m shape.
STEP 3:With the no. 4 filbert, float shades of Terra Cot- ta on the bell and in the center. Follow this with shades of Dark Chocolate. Apply highlights to the flower using Warm White on the no. 2 filbert.
Finally, create the stamen with Warm White on the no. 2 liner.
BERRIES
STEP 1: With Red Iron Oxide on the no. 2 round, basecoat the berries.
STEP 2:Using the no. 2 liner and Red Iron Oxide+Warm White, apply the berries’ highlights. Next, apply a dot of Warm White in the center of this highlight.
With Alizarin Crimson on the no. 2 filbert, float a shad- ow on the bottom of each berry (near the stem).
DOT FLOWERS
Some of the dot flowers are Lavender, and the rest are Midnight Blue, all created with the no. 2 round. Dip the brush in the color, and then tip it with Warm White. Touch the loaded brush to the surface, gently laying the bristles down on it. With very little pressure, pull toward the left and lift the brush. It will be possible to create three or four petals per load.
Both flowers’ centers are a large dot of Honey Brown created with the no. 2 liner. The centers’ highlights are a dot of True Ochre+tch Warm White.
FINISHING
Allow the entire piece to dry, and then apply four or five coats of a water-based satin varnish, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Perform a light wet-dry sanding, and allow the varnish to dry between coats.
