paint before applying the paint to the banner; the sealer will combine with your paint to adhere to the slick surface.) Using a sideload technique, shade Traditional Burnt Umber on the bottoms of the sticks, next to banner and banner edges, under the chin, under the skirt, and anywhere a shadow should be deepened or warmed. Using same color, shade along the bot- tom of each wing section. Thin Traditional Burnt Umber and load it into the comb brush in order to add some diagonal crosshatching to the banner and to make it look antiqued.
With Dioxazine Purple, deepen shading on all blue areas and on the left side of each polka dot.
Using Forest Green, shade the stem end of each leaf and down center, as well as the inside and along the banner rolls. (Note: The project’s banner paper was green so it is shaded with Forest Green. Depending on the paper you chose, shade it in a darker value of the same hue. For example, if the paper is blue, shade it with a darker blue or a deep purple. If the paper is pink, shade it with a Cherry Red+Lamp (Ebony) Black (1:tch), like the shading on the dress. There are plenty of col- ors to choose from with this project. Also, dark brown and black work well for shading on any color of paper; these colors can be added to any color from this project’s palette to darken the value and create a shading color.)
Mix together Moon Yellow+Cherry Red and shade the bird’s beak and feet, plus all the stars.

With a mix of Snow (Titanium) White+Turquoise Blue, highlight all the blue areas. Using Snow (Titanium) White, add a bright highlight in all of the blue areas.
Mix Snow (Titanium) White+Flesh Tone and using a classic sideload, reverse float or a dry brush technique of your choice, highlight all skin areas, including the ankle, fingers, nose and center of face, vertically.
Using a dry brush technique, highlight the dress down the center with a mixture of Snow (Titanium) White+Peony Pink. Touch up the fingers with Shading Flesh. Using the liner
brush, paint the Fairy Godmother’s fingernails Peony Pink. Mix Snow (Titanium) White+Foliage Green to highlight the right side of each leaf. Using the liner and the thinned green mixture in this step, paint the tendrils and the dots at the cor-
ners of the banner.
Using fine liner with Lamp (Ebony) Black or a black pen,
paint the Fairy Godmother’s antennae. With a liner brush and Snow (Titanium) White, add a tiny vertical highlight on her nails, arms, dress and bow, the bird’s feet and the corners of
