 Chapter Happenings
INSPIRATIONAL WORDS FOR THE WOMEN’S CRISIS CENTER
South Side Brushes – Worth, Illinois
The South Side Brushes was asked by the Women’s Crisis Center to paint inspirational words at the top of various walls in their public gathering areas. A committee was formed and it was determined to paint words separated by flowers and enhanced with stenciled butterflies on rolls of canvas 18 inches top to bottom. When completed the wallpaper canvases
were glued at the top of the
walls up against the ceiling
with words flowing around
the rooms and through the
hallways.
PETALS AND WINGS QUILT
Florida Suncoast Decorative Artists – Tampa, Florida
Jean Archer mda, as Ways and Means Chairman for the Florida Suncoast Decorative Artists Chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters, wanted
to have a painting project that could raise funds but involve the
whole chapter. She drew fifteen designs, all having basically the

same arrangement of leaves and ribbons but different butterflies and flowers. For ease of painting, the Petals and Wings quilt designs were laminated, aiding the twenty-two chapter members who painted the diamonds—not squares as seen in a traditional quilt. This was done in six workshops. DecoArt donated So-Soft Fabric Paint to the chapter.
Annette Cerny, an award-winning quilter, pieced and quilted the project. The quilt was appraised by Brenda Grampas, quilt historian and appraiser. It was valued at $4,000 with a replacement or insurance value of $8,000.
A label was placed on the back with the names of all who were involved. Louise Karim, a member of the Heart of Pinellas Decorative Artists, won the quilt in the March 2016 drawing.
Not only was the quilt a fundraiser and means of camaraderie within the chapter,
but it also served as a
publicity tool when taken
to quilting clubs and other organizations. As a result the chapter held a beginning fabric painting class for a quilt club where it was displayed.
