  OIL
   PREPARATION
Sand the surface, always stroking with the grain of the wood. Avoid sanding across the grain as the resulting scratch- es may show through the finish. Wipe off the dust with a soft, lint-free cloth. Paint the top surface with Country Blue or any light to medium value blue acrylic. Dry. It will be repainted completely with oil color.
Paint the back and the outer rim with Deep Midnight Blue. Paint a sec- ond coat when the first is dry. Dry and lightly spray to seal the entire tray with Krylon Matte Finish Spray. Over-spraying will make the surface slick and blending more difficult. The back of the tray can be

varnished now to keep it clean and uns- cuffed while handling.
APPLYING THE DESIGN
Make a tracing of the design using a pencil, ballpoint or Micron pen. Trim the paper with scissors so it will fit easily in- side the tray. Tape it lightly in place and slip white transfer paper under it. Trans- fer just the main lines and not the details at this time. Use a FriXion pen for this step instead of a stylus because the FriX- ion pen shows what is transferred but the tracing can be reused after removing the FriXion lines with heat from a hair dryer or iron. Untape and set the tracing aside to use for transferring the details.
