LET’S PAINT
With the 1" shader and the mixture of acrylics Yellow Oxide+Titanium White (1:5), paint the background. Allow to dry and then center the sketch and secure with tape. Use tracing paper and a stylus to transfer the design.
With the no. 12 shader, use Titanium White (oil) to paint the background. Load the brush with Cadmium Green Pale and paint, blending the colors. In some areas add Yellow Ochre Light and blend in all directions until the background is blurred.
ROBIN
Carefully observe the direction of the strokework of the plumage in the Step-by-Step on page 25 before painting. Using a no. 6 shader with Cadmium Orange paint the chest, forehead, above the eye and below it. Note the irregular strokework on the edge of the plumage.
With the no. 1 script liner and Cadmium Yellow paint high- lights on the left side and all around the eye. Paint some feathers in the middle of the chest mixing with orange feathers. These feathers are very short and should be painted from top to bot- tom. Mix the paint with a little bit of turpentine to help the paint flow more smoothly.
Use the same brush to paint feathers with Burnt Sienna on the right side below the beak, in the right contour of the eye, and to reinforce the shade below the beak.
