PREPARATION
Paint surface with DecoArt Multi-Purpose Sealer. Sand smooth.
When dry, basecoat with several coats of Light But- termilk. Allow to dry well.
Hint: Basecoat your decoy black and then follow the rest of the instructions. It will be stunning!
Apply basic outline of pattern on decoy, leaving off all details.
LET’S PAINT
NOTE: This design relies on subtle layering of thin color to achieve depth and shape. It’s not a wide palette of hues, but it is wide in value. Be sure to build up values gradually and continue until you’ve achieved appropriate value change to create shape, definition and interest. STIPPLE: Using scruffy brushes, stipple between flowers and leaves with the following colors in this order, using less of each as you go and a wet-on-wet technique: Silver Sage Green, Soft Sage, and Snow (Titanium) White.
BASECOAT
Silver Sage Green: All magnolia leaves. Desert Sand: All magnolia petals. Silver Sage Green: Center of magnolias. Plantation Pine: Rose stems and leaves. Snow (Titanium) White: Roses.
Apply detailed pattern. Do not apply the stripe lines on flower petals, just freehand these extremely lightly with the very thinned paint in Step 17 below.
