WHAT IS

             FREMONT STREET

             EXPERIENCE?

Fremont Street Experience is a five-block-long, open-air pedestrian
mall and entertainment district created to help revitalize downtown.
Fremont Street Experience opened in 1995.

Since Las Vegas was established in 1905, Fremont Street has been an
integral part of the community and at the forefront of Sin City’s famed
             casino industry.
In the 1940s, the emergence of neon gave downtown Las Vegas its
             nickname, “Glitter Gulch.”

             HISTORY

On May 15, 1905, a railroad land auction held near what is now
Fremont Street and Main Street created the Las Vegas Township.

By the time the El Rancho opened as the first casino on
The Strip in 1941, downtown Las Vegas had 36 years of history.
Fremont Street is the original Las Vegas Strip.

Famous for its fabulous neon, the Fremont Street Experience is
also home to some of the most recognizable Las Vegas icons
like “Vegas Vic,” which was erected atop the Pioneer Club in 1951.

The pedestrian mall was created when Fremont Street was
closed permanently to vehicular traffic in September of 1994.

In 1995, at a cost of $70 million, Fremont Street Experience
                  was created.

In 2004, the Viva Vision canopy was upgraded. Funds have
been approved for another technology upgrade in 2019.
