                                                              pig and is most threatened by extinction. It belongs to
                                                              a unique genus that has no close relative. The species
                                                              was originally found in the narrow belt of tall, alluvial
                                                              grassland plains that runs across the southern edge of
                                                              the Himalayas in the Indian subcontinent. However, by
                                                              1993 it was reduced to a single population found only
