Unit 5: Intellectual Property Rights in Digital Libraries

Copyright Law and Digital Content

Copyright law protects original works of authorship, including books, articles,
images, and software. When creating or using digital content, it is essential to
understand and comply with copyright law.
Key concepts:

   • Author's Rights: The creator of a work has the exclusive right to
reproduce, distribute, perform, display, and create derivative works
      based on the work.

   • Fair Use: In certain circumstances, it may be permissible to use
copyrighted material without obtaining permission. This is known as fair
      use.

   • Licensing: Copyright owners can grant licenses to others to use their
works under specific terms and conditions.
