Super Bowl champ
loves being a family man
By Morgan Phillips
Jarius Wynn grew up in Lincolnton surrounded by football. His cousins and friends all loved the sport, and he often spent afternoons playing in impromptu, backyard games.
As a child, Wynn’s dream was to go to the NFL.
“It didn’t matter what team it was,” he said. “It was just a childhood dream that I had a passion to fulfill.”
While at Georgia Military College and the University of Georgia, Wynn played football, racking up numerous accolades. At GMC, where Wynn played for two seasons, he earned second-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honors. He was a team captain and defensive MVP. In fact, Wynn was rated the No. 1 junior college defensive tackle prospect in the nation in 2007. That same year, Wynn accepted a football scholarship from UGA.
By 2009, Wynn was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Draft. In 2010, Wynn was released from the Green Bay Packers as part of cuts mandated by the 53-man roster. But, that same year, the Packers re-signed Wynn after their defensive end was injured. A year later on Feb. 6, 2011, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers by 31-25 at Super Bowl XLV.
