Wright began golfing after retiring from gymnastics, and working with Cutts Benedict, a local PGA golf professional.
Around the same time, Wright started working with Cutts Benedict, a local PGA golf professional who instructs many high school golfers.
Wright said there was a degree of trepidation when she left behind gymnastics and started up her golfing career.
“It was kind of scary, just because gymnastics was all I knew,” Wright said. “But because my dad loved golf so much, I told him, ‘I’ll try it with you.’ Somehow, I just started to pick it up. I started playing with him a lot over quarantine and met with Cutts. It was so much fun.”
Though Wright said there was a transition period when she first started golfing, Benedict said Wright adjusted well.
“It’s unbelievable where she started a couple of summers back,” Benedict said. “She was raw, undefined and looked like she

was swinging a hockey stick. And now, it’s amazing how far she’s come.”
This past spring, the NOHS girls golf team won the Georgia High School Association Class AAAA state title with a combined score of 494.
Wright finished second among the NOHS golfers, totaling 169 and placing ninth in the field.
That strong finish among the state’s top golfers came as a surprise to Wright.
“I never thought that would happen,” she said. “It was awesome. It was a great time.”
High school coach Rob Melton said Wright uses her gymnastics skills to her advantage on the golf course.
“She’s already got strength, and that helps with the golf swing,”
