Mary Kathryn Rozar and Spencer Bright have launched an unofficial sports communications and broadcast initiative at Oconee County High School.

Oconee County High School seniors Spencer Bright and Mary Kathryn Rozar are already living their professional dreams. The two sports enthusiasts are pursuing their passions of sports broadcasting and communications.
For Rozar, the process began her sophomore year when she spoke with a counselor about her goals. Rozar was connected with OCHS assistant football coach Erik Kriebel, who later thanked Rozar for her help getting players recruited.
Bright’s venture into sports communications began more recently. In April 2020, Bright asked Kevin Yancey, who was the outgoing OCHS athletic director at the time and now serves as the school’s principal, if he could record video and take photos of the school’s athletic teams.
Like Rozar’s counselor, Yancey put Bright in touch with Kriebel. Ever since then, Bright and Rozar have been the primary source for photos, videos and updates concerning OCHS athletics.
Bright and Rozar usually split their responsibilities. Bright produces hype videos and records the action. His aim is to make viewers “feel like you were there at the game.”
Rozar handles the distribution of the content Bright produces. She Tweets the videos, posts score updates on social media and takes pictures. Because there is no official class or club that handles sports communications, Rozar and Bright are essentially breaking the mold.
“It’s really cool being the trailblazers and being the first, but we’re figuring out everything as we go along,” Rozar said.
“It’s just the two of us and a coach; there’s no designated time for this,” Bright said. “We have to set up our meetings in our free time in between classes.”
