t has been almost 12 weeks since the FCT Administration closed schools due to the COVID 19
pandemic. At that point, no one was certain what the outcome was going be and how teaching
and learning would continue effectively.
The Senior Leadership Team of The Regent School led by our Principal, Mr. Williams had numerous
deliberations on how to ensure our students continued learning and engaging in different forms of co-
curricular activities. Looking back at these 12 weeks, many of our achievements have not been acci-
dental but rather based on research, countless trials, and constant feedback from our surveys from
stakeholders.
We have had many training sessions for our staff and developed a huge video library of tutorials for
students and staff members. We expanded our IT infrastructure to ensure we have the latest hardware
and software packages to run our Online Learning Programme.
At the Regent School, our Student Leaders play an important role in the running of the school and they
are always part of the decision making body. We have engaged them in several meetings to get their
opinion on different matters. Even now, we are in the process of concluding the Student and Boarding
Council elections as the new group of Student Leaders take over from the out-going ones. We would
like to thank our Year 11 Student Leaders for their immense contribution to the school. The feedback
and contribution from our students is always much appreciated.
We sent out E-Learning Daily Feedback Surveys to our students to find out if they were satisfied with
the quality of our delivery and other issues that required our attention. Just recently, we ensured all
concerned adhered to our Homework policy when students complained in the daily feedback.
For staff members, the Online Learning Programme has been very demanding and time consuming. In
most cases, students seem to learn better using this method. Below is a recent conversation I had with a
student; one could almost feel the excitement of achievement in his words.
Student’s comment;
“This form of correction is very effective because it really allows me understand precisely what I was
doing wrong. I'll be expecting the remaining part of the analysis. Thank you!”
Teacher’s response:
“I agree. This pandemic has exposed us to a new reality that would help students learn better. Howev-
er, this method is very time consuming but highly effective.”
