VIRTUAL TEACHING & LEARNING
               P A G E 2 0

In Mr Essang’s online lessons last week, the Year 10 students, during their Environmental Man-

agement, class learnt about Natural Ecosystems.

In the previous lesson, students were able to define the terms: ecosystem, population, community,

habitat, and niche. They also described the biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) components of
an ecosystem, including the description and explanation of ecological pyramids based on numbers

and energy, as well as the process of respiration, and the carbon cycle.

During the lessons on Natural Ecosystems, they were required to make a video presentation on

the concept of Ecotourism and its significance in managing forests; biodiversity and evaluate the

methods for estimating biodiversity; the nomenclature "conservation" and explore management
strategies for conservation of natural ecosystems; and explore the importance of national parks,

wildlife reserves, and world biosphere reserves using the reserve in Guadeloupe Archipelago as

               a case study.
