As an intellectual thing, a publication is prototypically a composition of these great length that it

photograph album. Books could be distributed in digital form as e-books and other formats.

Although in ordinary academic parlance that a monograph is known to be a professional academic
work, instead of a reference work on a single scholarly subject, in library and information science
monograph describes more broadly any non-serial publication complete in 1 volume (publication )
or a finite number of volumes (a novel like Prousts seven-volume In Search of Lost Time), in
contrast to serial publications like a magazine, journal, or newspaper. Books can also be sold
elsewhere. Books can also be borrowed from libraries. Google has estimated that as of 2010,
roughly 130,000,000 different titles were released. In some wealthier countries, the selling of
printed books has diminished due to the increased use of e-books.

In the 2000s, due to the growth in availability of affordable handheld computing devices, the
chance to share texts via electronic means became an attractive option for media publishers. The
expression e-book is a contraction of"digital book"; it pertains to a book-length book in digital form.
An e-book is generally made accessible through the internet, but also on CD-ROM and other
forms. E-Books might be read either using a computing device with an LED display like a
traditional computer, a smartphone or a tablet computer; or by means of a mobile e-ink screen
device called an e-book reader, such as the Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook, Kobo eReader,
or the Amazon Kindle. E-book readers attempt to mimic the experience of reading a print
publication by using this technology, because the displays onto e-book readers are much less
reflective.
