Advantages of Reading
As an intellectual thing, a book is prototypically a composition of these great length that it requires
a substantial investment of time to write and a still considerable, though not so comprehensive,
investment time to read. In the limited sense, a book is a self explanatory section or part of a
longer composition, a use that reflects the simple fact that, in antiquity, long functions had to be
written on many scrolls, and each scroll had to be identified from the publication it included. So, for
example, each component of Aristotles Physics is called a book. In the unrestricted sense, a book
is your compositional whole of which these segments, whether known as chapters or books or
parts, are components.
The academic material in a physical publication need not be a makeup, nor be called a novel.
Books can consist only of drawings, engravings, or photos, or such things as crossword puzzles or
cut-out dolls. In a physical book, the pages can be left blank or may contain an abstract group of
outlines as service for ongoing entries, e.g., an account book, an appointment book, an autograph
book, a laptop, a diary, or a sketchbook. Some physical publications are created out of pages thick
and sturdy enough to encourage other physical objects, like a record or photograph album. Books
may be distributed in electronic form as e-books and other formats.
Although in ordinary academic parlance a monograph is understood to be a professional academic
work, rather than a reference work on a single scholarly topic, in library and information science
monograph denotes more broadly any non-serial book complete in one volume (book) or a finite
number of volumes (even a publication like Prousts seven-volume In Search of Lost Time), in
contrast to serial publications like a magazine, journal, or newspaper. A passionate reader or
collector of novels is a bibliophile or colloquially,"bookworm". Novels are also sold elsewhere.
Google has estimated that as of 2010, roughly 130,000,000 different titles were released. In some
wealthier countries, the selling of printed books has decreased because of the increased usage of
e-books.
In the 2000s, due to the rise in availability of cheap handheld computing devices, the chance to
share texts through digital means became an attractive option for media publishers. The term e-
book is a contraction of"electronic book"; it pertains to some book-length publication in digital form.
An e-book is usually made available through the internet, but also on CD-ROM along with other
forms. E-Books may be read either using a computing device with an LED screen such as a
conventional computer, a smartphone or a tablet computer; or by means of a portable e-ink display
device known as an e-book reader, such as the Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook, Kobo
eReader, or even the Amazon Kindle. E-book readers try to mimic the experience of reading a print
book by using this technology, since the displays onto e-book readers are much less reflective.
