From the President’s Desk...
A
pneumonia of unknown cause was detected in
Wuhan, China, around December 2019. Initially
it was largely disregarded by world leaders, but it
spread rapidly in Wuhan region. Global air transport carried
the virus to all possible countries, and it became a pandemic.
This outbreak has had a significant impact globally as the
unrelenting COVID-19 pandemic rolls on. Now the future
isn’t what it used to be, either. What used to be a simple
idea now comes freighted with caveats, assumptions, and
speculations.
Executives everywhere are thinking through the contours of
the next normal.
Shipping has kept rolling during the pandemic – which is
lucky for all of us.
Shipping is operating within a new normal; even before
Covid-19 triggered an unprecedented social and economic
change, we were already dealing with the impact of IMO2020 and facing the challenges of transitioning an
industry to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
We can see clearly that without shipping there is no modern life. We can live without commercial aviation
but not without seaborne transportation.
During this time of crisis, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has ensured minimum
disruption to the shipping industry as it remains open for cargo operations and marine services, including
bunkering, ship supplies and shipyard repairs, to ensure commerce by sea and global supply chains remain
undisrupted.
The Singapore Government has put in place various relief measures for the maritime sector.
As the pandemic began to sweep across the world, we have cancelled all events for the year 2020.
It is still important to stay connected with our well-wishers & sponsors across globe.
So, Mariners Cricket Club (Singapore) bringing back the Annual Souvenir for the Year 2020. This magazine
has a large no of circulation across globe and people who can not attend our events wait for this souvenir to
reach their hands.
These are unsettling times and we wish you, your loved ones and fellow colleagues’ safe passage through
this diffi cult period.
Please take care, stay positive and find sometime for having fun and smiling. It is challenging operating
under the current restrictions; however, confident we will get through this, together.
Also, it is pandemic or new normal, we must maintain balance sheet of our life. Someone told very nicely:
Get to work on time, work effectively during working and get back to your family on time. That is balance
sheet of life.
Money and professional career is not everything in your life. Live as human being don’t live as a professional.
