Introduction

                        Brief course description:

Discourse Analysis is a linguistics course that is a compulsory course for students. The
focus of the study is to provide insight and knowledge to students about the study of
discourse analysis as one of the fields of linguistic studies. In this course the students will
study about what is discourse and some terms related to it, such as Content Analysis,
Conversation Analysis (CA), and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The student will study
some important concepts, principles, and approaches to a discourse. Explanations on those
aspects are required to understand clearly about the process in doing DA. The students will
study about the disciplines in doing DA, this is important to give descriptions about the
scope of studies in DA, which lead researchers to decide the disciplines of study as their
focus in doing DA. The students will study areas and some issues that are usually studied in
doing DA. After exploring some of the concepts, disciplines, areas, and issues in doing
Discourse Analysis (DA), the student will study the most important part, that is the methods
in doing DA, in this part the student will study the basic idea of directing the researcher or

discourse analysts to do the DA in practice. Then the last part is, the student will study some
             examples of work in DA.

                         The goals of the course:

After following the discourse analysis course, students are able to know and develop

knowledge about methods of analyzing qualitative data with an interpretation approach of
discourse analysis in language and literary research and applying it in related linguistic and
             literary studies.
