Thermador keeps its cool with a new generation of refrigeration technology
KITCHENS ARE GETTING COLDER. OVER THE LAST YEAR OR SO,
you may have noticed this big chill sweeping through your social media feeds, with more and more posts suggesting we use freezing as a cooking technique. Think burrata topped with balsamic reduction and grated frozen tomato. Think thoroughly frozen peaches shaved over a bowl of yogurt for breakfast. Even dill pickles, plucked from the freezer and grated to garnish a summer salad.
But, like air fryer meals and Vitamix recipes before them, these Instagram-approved dishes turn out best when we own the specialist bits of kitchen kit needed to create them. Thankfully, Thermador, the Califor- nia-based appliance manufacturer, has noticed the temperature shift and launched its most advanced collection yet — in a bid to give home cooks the most sophistocated and design-oriented refrigeration available.
The collection, which debuts the brand’s built-in Bottom Freezer Refrigeration, sees a suite of new drawer designs offering several different chilling modes and is available in 36-inch, 42-inch, and 48-inch models.
The ThermaFlex Drawers have the ability to freeze, chill, and store all in one drawer, and can switch between modes with just the touch of a button. The ThermaFresh Pro Drawers, too, take low temperatures to even cooler levels, and feature ethylene absorbers to slow down the ripening of your food — and keep it fresher for longer.
But that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg — as Thermador has also overhauled its ice offering. Whether you’re a budding mixologist or a habitual host, the collection’s 42- and 48-inch models feature two types of signature ice: Diamond Ice, a slightly smaller cube; and Entertaining Ice, large sculpted gems designed to keep cocktails chilled all evening.
And each of these new, ice-cool features are easily controlled, either by full-colour touchscreens or over WiFi using the Home Connect mobile app. There are also cameras fitted inside the appliances to ensure you stay fully stocked at all times, and Amazon Smart Reorder for the built-in filters to guarantee that — whether it’s frozen, shaved, or simply sipped — your water remains as pure as possible.
