Lassa Fever Disease
Lassa fever can also be called lassa haemorrahgic fever(LHF),it is caused
by Lassa virus. It was first discovered in the 1950s in Lassa, Borno state
,Nigeria. The mastomys rats are the vectors of this virus. 80% of infected
victims don’t have symptoms. . About after two weeks the virus settles
into the victim, the symptoms start showing. The major symptoms are :
● Head aches
● Vomiting
● Weakness/ fatigue
● Muscle aches
● Bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract
Note: As at this day, November 9, 2020, there is no treatment for the virus
• Transportation of the virus
• The virus is transported when people come in contact with:
• The feces or urine of rats
• Infected victims
• Play, touch or cut the parts of a dead rat
• Eat food contaminated by rats
