CHAPTER 29

            ANOTHER RELIANT ROBIN EPISODE

This story has an unfortunate ending for those of you with as they say, a nervous
            disposition!

There was a violent hammering on the door of our house and we opened it to behold an
            accident right on our doorstep.

(Picture of Reliant Robin car similar to the one in the accident.)

Parked on the road and just a few feet from our driveway entrance was a Reliant Robin
three wheel car. Some way in front and on the same side of the road was a small normal
four wheel saloon. Who actually hammered on our door I cannot rightly remember now,
but it could have been one of the Picker children who lived just across from our garden on
the south side of the house.

            THE SCENE
Everything moved quite quickly as Ruth and I assessed the situation. There was a middle
aged gentleman walking back and forth in agitation and obviously in shock, he was the
driver of the Reliant three wheeler.
There was a younger lady also very upset who was the driver of the small saloon car and
in the three wheeler were a middle aged lady in the front passenger seat, the driver’s wife
and behind her an elderly husband and wife, his or her parents.

At first nobody seemed to be injured, just much shaken up. The saloon car had been
passing the three wheeler which was proceeding slowly along the road, but suddenly at
the moment it was being overtaken it veered to the right, into the path of the small saloon.
The impact tore the whole of the right hand side out of the Reliant from the driver’s door to
the front wing. Fortunately both vehicles were still on their wheels and in a straight line.
Ruth and I decided that an ambulance was needed to transport the Reliant passengers for
a check up even if just for the sheer shock. I duly returned to the house and telephoned to
authorities explaining the situation and location.
