Page 8 - IT'S A RUM LIFE BOOK TWO "BOSTON 1960 TO 1970"
P. 8

ABOUT THIS BOOK
Now we move on to “real life”. There is some overlap with
Book 1 which we left in 1965 when Ruth and I were married.
Now we go back to 1960 and the beginning of work. This runs
on to 1970 when we moved house to become true country
            dwellers. Book 3 begins there.
No surnames have been used to protect the identity of the
characters except in isolated occasions where I feel that
character deserves the recognition. There are some who I
            would dearly love to name!
Believe it or not every incident actually happened; as the
years unfold the stories seem to become more “incredible”.
This is from time to time the result of what I considered to be
doing my job, at other times, just simply an unusual situation!
This is the beginning of married life, creating a new home,
making new friends and starting a family.

               CHAPTER 1
               LINCOLNSHIRE STANDARD TALES 1960/66
By 1963, I had become not exactly “disillusioned” with my
position at the Lincolnshire Standard, just rather unsure of my
            future!
This particular feeling followed a huge carpeting by the
Managing Editor after being “nicked” for exceeding the
standard 40mph commercial vehicle speed limit of the time.

               THE MAIN VAN STORY
I had been charged with exceeding 75mph in a Ford
Thames 5 cwt van with antique side valve (Ford pop) engine
and three speed gearbox. The ridiculousness of the estimated
velocity of the van when loaded to the roof at the time with
newspapers was incredulous enough. Added to that was the
