100 Miles Race
(From our special correspondent)
Hobart Feb 26
Notable events in the Hobart yachting season
are the long distance races. The ordinary
Saturday races take palce off the cityon the river
Derwent, which is about three miles wide, but
once a year a venture is made of a river and
open sea course. On Saturday last the Derwent
Sailing Squadron held its long distance round
Gordon Lighthouse and back, the course being
about 60 miles. At night the boats, seven in
number, became becalmed and there was a
drifting march for several hours. The start was at
3:00pm on aturday afternnon and Oenone got in
at 1:00pm sunday two minutes ahead of Elf and
the rest were well up.
