NEW FORSTER CUP
HELMSMAN.
Like most of-the seasoned helmsmen
acing on the Derwent to-day, Mr. N.
Winzenberg:, who. has been selected to
sail Tasmania's third 21-footer for the
Forster Cup", has been following the
call of the sea since his early childhood.
He first came into prominence as a
helmsman in the 28-footer Myrene,
which he aced with a fair amount of success. In later years,
he sailed Fay, Elf, Redpa, Crescent and finally Alwyn,
which "A"class yacht he now skippers. Ono feature of his
career as a helmsman has been his ability to make
comparatively slow boats into fast sailers. While in charge
of Elf, Redpa and Crescent, he reduced their handicaps to a
considerable degree. I recall with interest one season, a few
years back, when Mr. Winzenberg won three races at down
river regattas at Christmas time with Redpa. Since taking
over Alwyn, he has brought her along till now she is close to
the scratch boats, whereas formerly she was on a fairly long
handicap. Ho is a particularly keen helmsman, and has little
to learn as regards sailing tactics. It s not yet quite decided
whether he will take Tassie Too or the new boat, but it is
practically certain that "Skipper"Batt will stick to his old
love “Tassie”
