“He was despised and rejected
                                                        by mankind, a man of suering,
                           Words from the prophet          and familiar with pain…”
                        Isaiah centuries earlier gave a
                        picture of what would ha	en:

                     “Surely he t k   “But he was pierced for our
                     up our pain and   transgreions, he was
                        bore our
                       su ering…”    crushed for our iniquities—“















                                                                 “— The punishment that brought
                                                                  us peace was on him, and by
                                                                  his wounds we are healed.”













     “…The Lord has laid on him
       the iniquity of us aƒ…”
                       “By o	reion and judgment
                           he was taken away…”
                           “…For the transgreion of
                            my people he was punished.”
