Greetings All!
I am excited to come on board as Field Manager at the Bu-
reau of Land Management’s (BLM) Red Rock/Sloan Field
Office. What a beautiful place to work! Like you, I take our
collective stewardship responsibilities seriously, with the
thought that one day all of us will hand off those responsi-
bilities to future caretakers and educators.

My appreciation of the BLM and our agency’s many partners Photo by Pat Williams
started when I was working with the Department of Natural
Resources. At that time, we formed a successful partnership for a major land conservation initiative with environ-
mental nonprofits, local communities and the BLM. I enjoyed the partnership and project so much that I signed on
with the BLM ten years ago, working in the Planning and Science Policy Division in Washington, D.C. When my
wife Susanna and I moved west, our first stop was with BLM New Mexico. Our next stop was the Southern Nevada
District as the Field Manager for the Pahrump Field Office and Renewable Energy Coordination Office.
My career has been at the county, state and federal government levels in environmental planning, community devel-
opment and management. This background has given me an insight into the relationship of our different government
bodies and the importance of partnerships, public involvement and public service. Some of my accomplishments have
included: Assisted with the accreditation of an historical park by the American Association of Museums (that was
few years ago!); coordinated and wrote legislation for a community-based Scenic River Plan that was passed by a
state general assembly; received two BLM “4Cs Team” awards (Consultation, Cooperation, and Communication all
in the Service of Conservation for Land Use Planning); and presented on behalf of the BLM at the Sino-U.S. Land
Use Planning Conference in Chengdu, China.
My Bachelor of Science degree is from George Mason University. I also have a Master of Planning degree with an
environmental studies concentration from The University of Virginia and am a member of the American Institute of
Certified Planners and the American Planning Association. I enjoy seeing the wonders of Nevada and the Southwest,
either through hiking or on my motorcycle.
With BLM staff, the Friends of Red Rock, the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association, other volunteer networks
and the public supporting and helping each other, we will continue to make sure that Red Rock and Sloan stay spe-
cial places. I look forward to strengthening our partnerships and working with everyone to achieve new goals for ex-
emplary stewardship, interpretation and education.
