basin that’s been named the Fire Wave. There
are lots of places to explore in the area and I
was there when the yucca were blooming. There
is a major wash south of the Fire Wave that
looks like an interesting place for exploring.
Of course, stay out of this area if the weather
is threatening a storm. This is the area that had
so many waterfalls and trapped tourists when it
rained during the winter. The way back to the
parking lot is a gentle upgrade.
Since this is a short hike, you’ll have time to
hike Mouse’s Tank or White Domes to fill-out
your day trip to Valley of Fire.
Getting there: Take the 15 north to Exit 75
and follow the signs to Valley of Fire. This is
a state park and does not accept passes issued
by the federal government agencies. There is
a $10 entrance fee. Once past the fee booth,
follow the main highway to the turnoff for the
Visitor Center and Mouse’s Tank Road. Follow
Mouse’s Tank Road. There are several parking Yucca in bloom
lots that are now clearly marked. The Fire Wave
is parking
area #3.
Cross the
road and
you’ll see
the sign for
the trail.
Happy
hiking!
