met Jackson while he was out on a walk with one of his “Valets,” as he calls the people who feed him,
brush him, take him on walks and conduct programs about wild horses and burros in Red Rock Canyon
with his help. Our conversation was interrupted several times when Jackson suddenly paused – often in
mid-sentence – to munch on some likely-looking-tufts of dry grass.
The Rock: How has your life changed
since becoming a Red Rock Canyon Inter-
pretive Association staff member?
Jackson: I’m sorry – where is this article
going to appear? And am I going to be on
the cover?
The Rock: Um . . . we hadn’t really de-
cided yet. We usua - -
Jackson: Because I really think you
should put me on the cover. Look at these
ears! Put me on your cover, and your maga-
zine is gonna just fly off the racks. Have
you seen my Facebook page? You want two
words that describe Jackson the Red Rock
Canyon Burro?
The Rock: I, uh –
Jackson: Media. Genic. That’s right – I
was born to be a cover-burro. What was
your question?
The Rock: I was asking how your life has
changed since you joined the Interpretive
