New Visitor Center is Underway!

ver 125 people from 46 federal, state and local organizations and affiliations were pres-
ent for the ground breaking ceremony that heralds the first step toward the building of
Othe new Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center. The ceremony was held under a tent with an
open side so that all were able to see some of Red Rock’s beauty. To mark the occasion, Mother
Nature presented the group with intermittent hail during the program.
State Bureau of Land Man-
agement Director Ron Wenker
recognized the various organiza-
tions that were present. Many of
them have been instrumental in the
success of the Red Rock Canyon
Conservation Area. Representing
them were Pat Williams, president
of Friends of Red Rock Canyon;
Bob Anderson of the Red Rock
Canyon Interpretive Association;
Tom Warden, vice president of
community and government rela-
tions for The Howard Hughes
Corporation; and Bud Meyers
of the Southern Nevada Paiute
Elders Group.
The Nellis Air Force Base
Color Guard presented the Ameri-
can and Nevada flags. The Base
Quartet sang the National Anthem
and a Native American blessing
