On August 7th, 2020, on the Zoom platform the Internal Assurance Quality Cell (IQAC)
and Centre for Research in Social Sciences and Education (CERSSE) JAIN (Deemed-to-
be University) conducted a Webinar involving a Panel Discussion titled ‘Unwrapping
the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020’. The two speakers who spoke on this issue
were Dr. R.S. Deshpande, well-known Agricultural Economist and former Director,
Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) and Dr. P.S. Jayaramu, Former
Professor in Political Science, Bangalore University and former Senior Research Fellow,
ICSSR.
Dr. Deshpande stated that in his opinion the core features of the NEP 2020. He began by
highlighting and welcoming the holistic nature of this policy wherein almost every
terminology that one can think of in the field of education has been covered. It provides a wide
array of instruments which will help assist the achievement of the goals of this policy through
programmes which are operated according to pre-planned strategy and an overall vision of
transforming India to Bharat, taking a cue from the UN Sustainable Development Goals. So the
problem could be that at the start itself the policy is dependent on elsewhere.
